GOVT TO DETERMINE GOAT PRICES THIS WEEK

Government will this Wednesday determine the price of goats earmarked for the Saudi Arabian market.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister Kampamba Chewe says a meeting will be held this Wednesday to determine the price and modalities for the export of goats to Saudi Arabia.
Speaking when addressing farmers at Chati in Kalulushi, Mrs. Chewe said government is determined to commercialize goat farming by supporting farmers to graduate from small holder to commercial.
The Zambian and Saudi Arabian governments entered into an agreement for the export of one million goats annually to that country.
Meanwhile Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary Bright Nundwe says the recent handover of 4-thousand and 90 livestock valued at 1 point 9 million Kwacha to Kalulushi district will help develop the livestock sector in the province.
Mr. Nundwe is optimistic that through the provision of livestock to Kalulushi that includes 1-thousand goats, Zambia will now be able to satisfy the Saudi Arabian market.
He challenged livestock and extension workers to be competent in providing quality services to livestock farmers to increase the numbers of goats in the country.
