GOVT REVIEWING POLICIES ON CHILDREN

Minister of Youth Sport and Child Development, Moses Mawere says government is reviewing policies that will be responsive to the needs of children.
Mr. Mawere says Government has established the Child protection Unit-CPU under the Zambia Police Service to address issues of Child abuse like abandonment, neglect and exploitation.
He was speaking during the launch of the violence against Children Survey Report in Lusaka Wednesday.

He said protecting children’s right is a responsibility of everyone.
Mr. Mawere said he is optimistic that the findings of the report will help stakeholders to find a lasting solution to violence against children in Zambia.
And US Ambassador to Zambia Daniel Foote said there is urgent need to empower and protect youths from all forms of violence.
Meanwhile, UNICEF Zambia Representative Noala Skinner said ending violence against Children must be one of the goals of any nation.
And University of Zambia Vice Chancellor Luke Mumba said the institution is happy to have played a key role in conducting the survey.
He said this in a speech read on his behalf by UNZA Assistant Dean -Research, Elijah Bwalya.
