GOVT PROMISES MORE DISTRIBUTE OF RELIEF

Minister in the Office of the Vice President Olipa Phiri says government will not be swayed by those against the ongoing distribution of relief food and livestock feed in areas affected by the drought.Ms Phiri says it is unfortunate that some people want to politicize the ongoing distribution of relief food and maize bran.She however said government will remain focused on mitigating the hunger situation across the country.Speaking said government through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit-DMMU has started the distribution of maize bran to livestock and fish farmers to mitigate the effects of the drought experienced in some parts of the country.The Minister was speaking in Monze district, when she flagged of the distribution of the maize bran in Southern Province.Ms Phiri also expressed disappointment with some people spreading fake information that the Maize Bran is meant for human consumption.And DMMU National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe has assured Livestock farmers in Southern province that Government will not let their animals die of starvation or lack of water.Mr Kabwe said next month Government will start drilling commercial water boreholes in selected districts of southern province to provide water for both human beings and animals.Meanwhile, Southern Province Patriotic Front chairperson Lawrence Evans said it is unfortunate that some members of the opposition have continued spreading lies on well-intended government programmes.And the beneficiaries of the maize bran have praised government for the initiative, saying the maize bran will save their livestock which were starving.
