GOVT PLANS TO ZERO RATE FISH FOOD INPUTS

By Hector Simfukwe-President Edgar Lungu says government plans to zero rate tax on inputs for manufacturing of fish food.

President Lungu says a number of people, who have ventured into fish farming, are finding it hard to acquire fish food, therefore, the need to find ways of reducing costs for them.

He has explained that government wants to help the fisheries sector so that it can be self sustaining and contribute to job creation in the country.

The Head of State has said this in Siavonga district, shortly before harvesting fish at Buyantanshi and Kamimbi Cooperatives, which are beneficiaries of the Presidential fish farming fund.

The two cooperatives, which benefited from the empowerment fund, expected to harvest about 36 tonnes of fish, worth 1 point 3 million kwacha.

And Yalelo Board Chairman, Fisho Mwale said there is an increase in demand for fish food.

Mr Mwale attributed this increased demand to the huge number of people, who have engaged in fish farming.

Meanwhile, speaking at the same event, Fsheries and Livestock Minister, Nkandu Luo said a lot of people have been helped to venture into fish farming, through the Presidential empowerment fund.

Professor Luo thanked President Lungu for coming up with such an initiative, which is moving people out of poverty.

And President Lungu says government will develop infrastructure in Siavonga, in order to promote tourism in the district.

The Head of State says construction of an airstrip and provision of electricity to the shores of Lake Kariba are some of the initiatives, which will be undertaken by government.

President Lungu said this earlier, when he held a meeting with Chief Simamba of the Tonga people of Siavonga district.

And Chief Simamba expressed happiness that government has continued helping the poor with empowerment funds for their busineses.

He said those, who have benefited from the empowerment funds in his chiefdom, are currently doing well.
