GOVT OUTLAWS HEADPHONES WHILE CROSSING ROAD

Transport and Logistics Minister FRANK TAYALI has signed a Statutory Instrument which outlaws the use of head phones, ear phones or talking on phone while crossing the road.

The statutory instrument has warned of punishment for pedestrians using head phones for a fine not exceeding one thousand penalty units.

For drivers, the statutory instrument has guided that they give way when pedestrians are using a pedestrian crossing which is not controlled by a traffic officer, traffic warden or police officer.

The statutory instrument, which was issued by the Government Gazette on 9th December 2022, has also guided that cyclists must at all times have one hand on the handlebars all the time.
