Govt Gets Kudos For Budget Allocation To Health Sector

Effie Mphande-The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection – JCTR has applauded government for maintaining the budget allocation to the health sector.

Programme Manager INNOCENT NDASHE says JCTR realizes that the country is facing financial difficulties in view of the debt and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr. NDASHE told ZNBC news in an interview that in view of the challenges, government has NOT compromised the allocation to the health sector but maintained it within eight percent.

He explained that despite the depreciation of the Kwacha, the allocation to drugs has increased to one point four billion kwacha compared to nine hundred million kwacha in 2020.

Mr. NDASHE said JCTR has noted that the allocation towards the support for the operation of hospitals has been maintained within the nine hundred million kwacha.

He said this is a clear indication of government’s commitment to the health sector.

And Mr. NDASHE said the centre has seen that the Republican President recognises the issue of debt and the pressure it has put on the treasury.

He said President LUNGU is adding his voice to seek debt relief and that if these funds are freed, the health sector could benefit from such a gesture.
