Govt directs Nwasco to monitor water projects

ZANIS—Minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Dennis Wanchinga has directed the newly inducted National Water Supply and Sanitation Council (NWASCO) board to monitor all infrastructure development projects by commercial water utility companies in the country.Dr Wanchinga says government is investing heavily in infrastructure development through water utility companies hence, the need to ensure that quality and speedy works are undertaken.ZANIS Reports that Dr Wanchinga was speaking this during the 7th orientation ceremony of NWASCO board members in Lusaka .Dr Wanchinga cited Lusaka, Eastern and North-Western Provinces as among the regions where huge sums of money has been injected in infrastructure development through water utility companies.He  explained that NWASCO board is like an agency of his Ministry which calls for close collaboration in order to iron out challenges facing the Water and Sanitation sectors.On the over  K500 million owed by a number of institutions through unsettled water bills to water utility companies countywide, Dr.Wanchinga called on the newly inaugurated NWASCO board to help water utility companies in collecting the accumulated bills.
