GOVT COMMITS TO ENDING CHILD LABOUR

Government says it is committed to address Child Labour so that children can have rights of accessing education.

Labour Permanent Secretary Chanda Kaziya says Government has also put in place policies that will ensure that children are not exploited in working places.

Mr Kazhiya was speaking in Lusaka today during the commemoration of the world day against Child Labour.

The Permanent Secretary has since called for increased collaboration with all stakeholders in addressing the scourge.

The International Labour Organisation Country Director Gorge Okuto has observed that one in five children in Africa particularly are subjected to Child labour, a situation he said needs to be stopped.

Mr Okuto further called for free access to decent   work and laws that protect children.

Meanwhile, the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions ZCTU President Chishimba Nkole stated that children must not be distracted from going to school to work in harzadous places.

Earlier, Labour Commissioner Given Simutengwa explained that Government has out in place progressive programs across the country aimed at empowering children with skills.
