GOVT CAUTIONS LOCAL AUTHORITIES INTERNAL AUDITORS

By ZANIS:

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary for Administration, MAAMBO HAMAUNDU has called on all internal auditors in local authorities to be trusted advisors as they execute their duties in their various councils.

Mr. HAMAUNDU says the work of internal auditors has for a long time revolved around reviewing financial records and pointing out risks.

He says this work has been unappreciated most of the time.

Speaking when he officiated at the Local Authorities Internal Auditors training workshop in Chongwe, Mr. HAMAUNDU said the increase in the Constituency Development Fund -CDF- allocation calls for prudent utilisation of public funds, with emphasis in equity and transparency.

He said it was for this reason that the Ministry of Local Government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, have decided to train internal auditors for local authorities.

Mr. HAMAUNDU said training further aims at up scaling the skills of internal auditors so that their capacities care enhanced to add value to the management of public resources.

Internal audit staff from various local authorities across the country are this week undergoing a five day training on internal audit at the Chalimbana Local Authorities Training Institute in Chongwe.
