GOVT BACKS SMALL HOLDER FARMERS

Government says it will continue to support projects that help small holder farmers.
Ministry of Agriculture Acting Director of Agriculture Alick Daka says this is because the projects uplift the livelihoods of people in rural communities.
Mr. Daka was speaking in Lusaka today during the joint Coordinating Meeting Inception of the Expansion of Community Bases Small Holder Irrigation Development project being spearheaded in collaboration with the Japanese government.
He said government has already budgeted for the counterpart funding and will ensure it is released in good time.
Mr. Daka said Government is grateful to the Japanese government for the cooperation and successful implementation of the first phase of the project in Northern and Luapula provinces.
Meanwhile Chief Representative of JICA Zambia office Junichi Hanai said the project is being extended to Copperbelt, Central and Northwestern provinces.
