Govt advised to strengthen the health sector

Hidenobu Sobashima

Japan has advised the Zambian government to strengthen the health sector if it is to continue achieving development in a sustainable manner.

Japanese Ambassador to Zambia, Hidenobu Sobashima says this is why his Country intends to contribute to this process in cooperation with the Japanese private sector.

Mr. Sobashima says this contribution includes the funding of the Japan Anti-Tuberculosis Association (JATA) project in Chongwe District.

He says the hope of his Country is that JATA, whose funding is over US$1.2 million will continue to bear fruits even after its conclusion.

The Japanese ambassador was speaking during a dissemination meeting of the end of the Chongwe JATA project in Lusaka.

And Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, Dr Kennedy Malama has expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for the support it has rendered to end TB in Zambia through the JATA project.

Dr. Malama says government will use lessons learnt from the JATA project in combating the infectious disease in the Country.

He says from the JATA project, it is clear that dealing with the issue of TB should start from the communities.
