Transparency International – Zambia has urged the Government to enhance transparency in the manner in which public debt is contracted and managed after the debt restructuring process.

TIZ President PRISCILLA CHANSA says doing so will enable the Government to be held accountable by citizens and non state actors.

In an interview, Ms. CHANSA says some of the public debt acquired usually has non-disclosure agreements which limit the level of information to be available to the public.

She has told ZNBC NEWS in an interview that it is also important that Parliament continues to enhance its scrutiny of debt by looking at terms and conditions of the loans that the Government would want to acquire.

She has however commended President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA for his continued pronouncements in the fight against corruption saying it speaks to his Government’s commitment to Zero tolerance to corruption.

And Centre for Policy Dialogue Executive Director CAROLINE KATOTOWE has urged law enforcement agencies to act swiftly against those who choose to engage in corrupt practices and abuse authority.

Ms KATOTOWE said it is encouraging that President HICHILEMA and his Government continues to assure the Zambian people that whoever is found wanting would be dealt with.
