Govt acts on cost of production

By Hannock Kasama

Chief Government Spokesperson CORNELIUS MWEETWA says government has put in place measures to reduce the cost of production, which is critical to economic development.

Mr. MWEETWA, who is also Information and Media Minister, says the measures will lead to a reduction in the cost of living in the country.

He says the economic challenges that the country is facing are as a result of the staggering external debts that the UPND administration inherited from the previous administration.

Mr. MWEETWA said this in LUSAKA last night during the British Broadcasting Corporation -BBC’s panel discussion.

At the same event, MPOROKOSO Member of Parliament BRIAN MUNDUBILE said the rising mealie meal price is attributed to the government’s decision to export excess maize.

Mr. MUNDUBILE said the export of maize has caused the deficit of the crop, thereby pushing the prices of mealie meal up.

Meanwhile New Heritage Party President CHISHALA KATEKA bemoaned the continuous depreciation of the KWACHA.
