Govt acts on abusive employers

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has suspended the operations of Asham Investment limited, a lime producing company for failure to provide Personal Protective Equipment to workers.

The Ministry has further fined the company and Baudot Cement Zambia Limited 60 thousand kwacha each to be paid within 14 days or risk further legal action.

This comes after Labour Minister BRENDA TAMBATAMBA led a team of labour inspectors and other statutory bodies on impromptu inspections of the two companies.

Speaking after the inspection, Ms. TAMBATAMBA advised the two companies not to engage in corruption.

Ms. TAMBATAMBA said Government is there to support investors to develop the country but will not allow non-compliance to labour laws.
