Government has bemoaned the high rate of Non Revenue Water collection

Water Development and Sanitation Minister, MIKE MPOSHA has disclosed that Water Utility Companies abstract and treat water at a high cost but it ends up being wasted due to a number of factors.

He says some factors include old infrastructure that keeps on leaking as a physical loss and financial loss which is under the billing system

Mr. MPOSHA said currently water coverage and supply in Zambia was pegged at 87.6 percent while provision of adequate Sanitation for Zambian citizens was at 72- percent far below the target of attaining hundred percent by 2030.

He said this during a courtesy call paid by the Executive Secretary Doctor RASHID MBAZIIRA of African Ministers Council on Water -AMCOW- at his office today .

Meanwhile, AMCOW Executive Secretary Dr RASHID MBAZIIRA has praised the government for being a committed member.

Dr MBAZIIRA said AMCOW was pleased with Zambia’s commitment in providing measures to address water scarcity by embarking on infrastructure construction and upgrade amidst adverse impact of climate change
