GEARS Opposes Proposed Formation Of A Paramount Chiefs Council

Governance, Elections, Advocacy, and Research Services GEARS Initiative has opposed the proposed formation of a Paramount Chiefs Council.

A statement believed to have been issued by Paramount Chief Chitimukulu has circulated on various media platforms in which he is proposing the formation of their council which will include the Litunga, Chief Chitimukulu, Gawa Undi and Chief Mpezeni to be enacted by parliament and its role to include advising the president on various matters.

But GEARS Initiative Executive Director Mcdonald Chipenzi has described this move as a sponsored and organized confusion whose view is to divert peoples’ attention from the current debate on constitution amendment bill number 10.

Mr Chipenzi in an interview with phoenix news has wondered where the proposal which is not even in bill 10 has come from, further stating that the development vindicates fears expressed by some stakeholders that if bill 10 is left open, many other people would want to bring in their proposals.
