Lusaka, Zambia24 (22-05-2023-The Governance, Elections, Advocacy, Research Services (GEARS) initiative in Zambia has applauded President Hakainde Hichilema’s message of hope, which he delivered at the State House press conference last Thursday.
Lackson Lungu, the Advisory Council Chairperson of GEARS Initiative, told Zambia24 in a statement that in light of the economic difficulties that the Zambian people are facing, it was timely for the President to take time and explain the policy direction the government is taking, including what it has been doing and its plans for the future.
Lungu expressed gratitude for the President’s pronouncements made during the Press Briefing on the 18th of May, 2023. GEARS Initiative commended President Hichilema for addressing issues related to debt restructuring, the economy, agriculture, education, health, social security, and the rule of law.
The Presidential address mentioned that the government is making strides towards leading the country to a positive economic outlook. If this outlook is sustained, it will undoubtedly lead to a speedy economic recovery, thus improving the living standards of the people.
The GEARS Initiative called upon all political players and stakeholders in the governance process to adhere to the dictates of the law. They also urged the government to continue creating a conducive environment for the development of the nation and its citizens.
While welcoming the President’s call on opposition parties to provide constructive criticism and offer alternatives to government policies, GEARS also encouraged the government to be receptive to positive concerns raised by stakeholders and to find ways of addressing them through appropriate channels and institutions.
GEARS urged the government not to tire in its efforts to create a peaceful and prosperous Zambia. The Zambian people are looking forward to the effective implementation of the pronouncements made by the President during the press conference.
