GBM Skips UPND Launch; Spends Night In Police Custody

GBM Police CellsOpposition United Party for National Development, UPND, Vice President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba commonly known as GBM yesterday missed the party campaign launch after the police arrested him for allegedly slapping a woman at a market in Ndola.

GBM is known for his short fuse. In unexplained circumstances during a campaign tour on the Copperbelt, he allegedly landed his hand on a woman, an action that could attract assault charges.

Police cornered him at a crucial time when he was gearing for a rally he had worked hard to make a success. While the rally was going ahead, the voluminous GBM was left to squeeze on a small single mattress. He could still afford a smile and thumbs up.

At a fairly well-attended rally held at Kitwe’s Freedom Park, party leader Hakainde Hichilema delivered a 10 point plan.

HICHILEMA’S STATEMENT ON GBM AND RALLY LAUNCH

We are grateful to our fellow citizens in Kitwe and the surrounding areas who turned out in numbers to listen to our message for the country.

We are equally thankful to many of our people who followed proceedings on various platforms such as radio and television, as well as the Internet.

Of course it was another sad day for us as our Vice-President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba could not be with us after he was arrested and is currently in detention at Ndola Central Police on unknown charges.

We delivered our 10 Point Plan for economic recovery that includes good governance and respect for human rights as a priority, in contrast to the current situation where we have opposition figures being arrested.

Zambians are expectant of jobs and positive messages, not pulling down and burning billboards and other acts of intimidation.

We passed through Ndola Central Police station to see our brother GBM and as ever he is in high spirits knowing fully well that these are efforts meant to derail our campaigns.

Let’s pray for one another and the country so that peace may continue prevailing, especially during this highly emotional period.

We love our country, we love our people and God bless you all.
