THE United Party for National Development (UPND) has promised to give more opportunities to local traders and contractors in the country as a way of empowering them once elected into office in August.
UPND vice-president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba said local contractors and traders were important in helping boost the country’s economy.
“If we are voted into power, as UPND, we will engage local contractors to build roads. We will also give opportunities to traders to supply to supermarkets,” Mr Mwamba said.
He was speaking when he featured on Radio Phoenix’s ‘Let the People Talk’ programme in Lusaka yesterday.
Mr Mwamba, who is UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema’s running mate, said the party would also supply affordable fertilisers to large and small-scale farmers.
He said the party would ensure that mealie-meal prices in Zambia were reduced in order for the people of Zambia to afford the commodity.
Mr Mwamba said UPND would also ensure that civil servants in the country are paid on time and that their salaries will also be increased.
UPND would create jobs for Zambians and give entrepreneurs an opportunity to access grants to boost their businesses.
