GBM Appearing At Kitwe Magistrate Court

GBM-Masebo CellsHundreds of sympathisers have gathered at the Kitwe Magistrate Court to give solidarity to UPND vice-president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba commonly known as GBM.

GBM spent the weekend in police cells and is expected to be arraigned on malicious damage and assault charges.

But the wealthy businessman denies any wrongdoing describing his charges as persecution to stop the opposition from unseating the ruling Patriotic Front on August 11 when the country holds the general elections.

GBM, the former defence minister in PF, says the only party that will bring economic sanity to Zambia is the opposition UPND le by Hakainde Hichilema.

Mwamba was arrested on Saturday at the Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Airport as he attempted board a plane heading to Lusaka.

He had been on the Copperbelt campaigning for the UPND and was expected to be a key speaker at the party rally held on Saturday.

On Friday, Mwamba, in the company of United Democratic Front leader Miles Sampa, were involved in a scuffle with some marketeers at Chisokone Market where GBM allegedly slapped a marketeer.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga said Mwamba will be charged on Sunday with one count of assault and another of malicious damage to property.

He was detained in Ndola adding up to a litany of outstanding clashes with the law.
