FRA Gives Maize To DMMU

The Food Reserve Agency – FRA- in 2019 released a total of 1,597,140 by 50 kg bags of white maize to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit – DMMU for food relief purposes.The maize was valued at 156, 519,720 Kwacha.FRA Public Relations Coordinator, John Chipandwe says in 2019 DMMU increased its request for annual quantities of white maize from the annual average of around nine thousand metric tonnes.Mr. Chipandwe told ZNBC News in a statement that the Agency released the maize stocks from its national strategic food reserves to DMMU to address food insecurity in affected parts of the country experienced in the 2018/2019 farming season.He said the maize was collected from Lusaka, Copperbelt, Central and Southern Provinces and distributed after milling to affected communities in various parts of the country, including severely affected provinces such as Southern, Western Eastern and Central. .Mr. Chipandwe said in 2020 FRA will continue to perform its role as a critical partner to DMMU’s efforts in meeting food emergencies.
