FLOODS WRECK HAVOC IN NSAMA

Over 2-hundred houses have collapsed due to floods in Katai and Chibanga villages of Nsama District, leaving a number of people living along the Lake Tanganyika shores without shelter.

Nsama District Commissioner Peter Mwando who confirmed the development to ZANIS said the floods which has affected houses have been caused by the increase of water levels on the lake.

Mr. Mwando has since appealed to government through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- to assist the affected villages.

The District Commissioner explained that the District Disaster Management Committee has identified an upper land where people will be moved once the tents are provided.

And some affected families have also appealed to government for assistance.

Evelyn Mumba one of the affected said her family has lost most of the property.
