Five Hilcrest School Pupils die in an accident

Five pupils of Hillcrest Technical School died on the spot while 11 others sustained serious injuries in an accident which happened on Great North Road near Kozo Lodge 5 KM South of Choma, on 17th June 2016 at about 22 hours.

 

This is contained in a Police update statement made available to Zambian Eye by Assistant Police Public Relations Officer, Esther Mwaata Katongo.

 

“Involved was a Mitsubishi Rosa Registration number AJC 5110 , a property of Hillcrest Technical School driven by Joseph Kafwimbi Mwape, 35 of highlands, Livingstone which was heading to Canisias Secondary School from Livingstone for games.” Katongo said in a statement.

 

“Also involved was a Daf truck Registration number ABZ 8175 and trailer number 8175T which was stationed. The accident happened when the driver of the Minibus was overtaking a stationed truck in the process hit into the same truck as he tried to get back to his lane upon seeing an oncoming motor vehicle. Due to the impact, [5] pupils died on the spot, 11 were seriously injured and are admitted to Choma General Hospital while 20 were treated as out patients”, she said.

 

According to the eye witnesses, the driver escaped without injuries.

 

The bodies have been deposited in Choma General Hospital mortuary. Driver is detained for dangerous driving.
