Five arrested for campaign poster vandalism

upnd violencePolice in Lusaka have reportedly arrested five more vandals who were pulling down Patriotic Front (PF) posters and carrying dangerous weapons.

The quintet were spotted tearing down posters along Cairo Road on Sunday around 23:00 hrs and are reportedly detained at Lusaka’s Central Police Station. The PF has constituted a team that has been patrolling and inspecting their billboards and posters after a spate of tit-for-tat destruction and defacement of campaign material most notably with the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND).

The five who the PF has accused of being UPND cadres were arrested and a vehicle – a Toyota land cruiser registration number AAL 5818 in which offensive weapons were found impound.

 

There has been a series of violence and vandalism activities between UPND and PF cadres in the recent past, both party’s Bill Boards and Posters have been vandalized by rival cadres.

 

Earlier Electoral Commission of Zambia threatened to disqualify any party found perpetrating vandalism of campaign materials.
