FISHERIES MINISTRY GOES DIGITAL

(NAIS)The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has launched a mobile information system that will provide electronic information on all the activities in the ministry.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Nkandu Luo says the Mobile-Fisheries and Livestock Advisory Information System (M-FLAIS) will offer real time expert information from her staff to the farmers.

Professor Luo says through the system, farmers will be able to access E- Extension services on production, disease management and control and marketing of fish, livestock and fodder crops.

She says the system will also help capture data of all the beneficiaries of her ministry’s programmes and track progress.

Speaking during the launch in Chililabombwe district where she handed over mobile phones to camp officers, Professor Luo said the ministry has trained community facilitators to work with the camp officers.

Professor Luo said officers at the district and camp level and community facilitators throughout the country will be provided with mobile phones for data collection and information interface.

The minister said the district and camp officers will be given motorbikes while camp facilities will be provided with bicycles to facilitate data capture.
