FIRST LADY CALLS FOR SUPPORT TO GIRL CHILD

First Lady Esther Lungu has called for more support towards the girl child due to the vulnerability they are exposed to.Speaking when she met representatives from the United Church of ZambiaRiverside Congregation in Kitwe, Mrs LUNGU said child abuse, child marriages, teenage pregnancies among other vices have not spared the girl child.Mrs. Lungu said it is also sad to see the child missing out on education due to challenges faced in accessing sanitary towels.She said girls need to be supported to be in school despite being a victim of so many vices.Meanwhile, Mrs. Lungu says she has been praying for Zambia over gassingincidences being reported in different parts of the Country.She said it is heartbreaking to see innocent people losing lives hence her prayers to God to rescue the nation.Earlier, Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Bright Nundwe said reports ofgassing that have hit the province are very unusual.He said Zambia has been known to be a peaceful nation and what is happening is worrying as reports have continued to reach his office.And United Church of Zambia Representative Tom Kamwendo said theChurch has embarked on three projects to support vulnerable school children with sanitary towels, support vulnerable girls with school fees and build flats to sustain various activities.The First Lady is in Kitwe to grace the fundraising event for the UCZ.
