FIRE LEAVES FAMILY HOMELESS

(ZANIS) A family of ten has been left homeless after fire swept through their home in Kalabo District, Western Province.

Owner of the house, BEN SIKAUNDU has told members of the District Disaster Management Committee -DDMC- that the fire which occurred on November 17, 2021, burnt all household goods to ashes.

Mr. SIKAUNDU said the fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault.

He disclosed that his family is currently squatting in a hostel at Kalabo District Hospital and has since appealed for financial help from well-wishers.

And a school in Kalabo has had its roof blown off by strong winds resulting in disruption of classes for over 2-hundred 50 pupils.

Lunje Primary School Head Teacher MICHEAL MULAMFU has confirmed the incident
and appealed to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- to come to the aid of the school, which caters for learners from over 10 villages.

Meanwhile, DDMU says it will respond as soon as an assessment report is done on the two calamities that have occurred in Kalabo District.

DMMU Senior Communications Officer MATTHEWS MUSUKWA said this when he and the DDMC members checked on the two damaged structures in Kalabo today.
