Father, Son sentenced to 30-years & 20 years imprisonment

The Livingstone High Court has sentenced a 55-year-old man to 30-years imprisonment for defiling his step daughter.

The Court has also sentenced his son to 20 years for defiling the same girl.

JOSEPH BWALYA and his son BEN BWALYA, who are residents of Choma District, were convicted of defilement which involved the abuse and exploitation of a minor aged 13.

Livingstone High Court Judge CATHERINE PHIRI sentenced the duo on Friday.

This followed their conviction by the Choma Magistrates’ Court in 2023 which later committed them to the Livingstone High Court for sentencing.

It is alleged that Mr. BWALYA defiled his step daughter between December 1, 2022 and January 31, 2023 while his son defiled the same girl between 1st and 31st July, 2022.

And Zambia Police Spokesperson RAE HAMOONGA has commended all police officers, legal professionals and support staff who were involved in the investigation and prosecution of the case.

This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by Mr. HAMOONGA.
