FAO Trains Vets

(NAIS) The Food and Agriculture Organisation -FAO- in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development -USAID- has trained 27 veterinarians under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in Applied Veterinary Epidemiology.

The training is aimed at building a cadre of skilled frontline veterinarians who will help to conduct effective surveillance and respond to disease outbreaks under the One Health approach.

Fisheries and Livestock Permanent Secretary, HIMBA CHEELO says Frontline Applied Veterinary Epidemiology will enable the detection of animal diseases preparedness at grass root level.

In a speech read on her behalf by the Human Resources and Administration Director IGNATIUS DAKA during the graduation Ceremony in Lusaka, Ms CHEELO added that the initiative will help to eradicate livestock diseases.

Meanwhile, FAO Country Representative SUZE PERCY FILLIPINI noted that the program is a great milestone in enhancing the capacity in the provision of veterinary services in the country.
