The Emeralds and Semi-Precious Stones Mining Association of Zambia is appealing to government to consider increasing the number of days on a visa for international emeralds and semi-precious stones buyers.

Association President Victor Kalesha wants the number of days to be increased from the current 30 granted per year to at least six months.

In an interview with Phoenix Business News, Mr. Kalesha feels doing so will allow international buyers among other investors to explore possibilities of investment in potential mining sites and will also provide the country with potential tourists’ thereby bringing in forex.

And Mr. Kalesha has reiterated the need for government to increase security in the mining and trading of gemstones to avoid losing huge sums of revenue due to illegal mining and trading of precious minerals especially in Lufwanyama district on the Copperbelt province.
