ERB told to Speed up Off Grid Licensing

Energy Minister Matthew Nkhuwa has directed the Energy Regulation Board -ERB- to expedite the issuance of licensing for off grid projects to the private sector.Mr. Nkhuwa says this will narrow the gap of reaching the target of electrifying 90 percent of urban areas and 51 percent in rural areas by 2030.He says the mini grid will also act as a catalyst for economic development and growth in rural areas.Mr. Nkhuwa said this during the launch of the Zambia off grid Electricity Web Portal which will promote private sector participation in providing off grid energy Solutions.And ERB- Executive Director Langiwe Lungu said the organisation will remain committed to developing and implementing robust systems that will be responsive for emerging trends in the sector.Meanwhile, International Finance Corporation Resident Representative Madalo Minofu, who funded the project commended government for its effort in ensuring that all areas are added to the National grid.
