Ensuring Transparent and Accountable Disaster Relief

Lusaka, Zambia – March 1, 2024 – President Hakainde Hichilema’s declaration of the 2023-2024 drought as a national emergency prompts the Zambia Youth Association in the Fight Against Corruption (ZYAFAC) to emphasize the need for transparent distribution of relief aid.
Kanema Rickson, Board Chairperson of the Zambia Youth Association in the Fight Against Corruption (ZYAFAC), told Zambia24 in a statement that youths are particularly vulnerable to food scarcity and must be prioritized in relief efforts.
While commending the President’s leadership, ZYAFAC Chairperson Kanema urged stringent measures to prevent corruption and favoritism in aid distribution.
He emphasized that transparency and accountability must be upheld from donation receipt to resource distribution.
Kanema called for a collaborative approach involving various stakeholders to accurately identify affected areas and ensure equitable aid distribution.
He also emphasized the need for a comprehensive list of affected individuals and communities to facilitate transparent aid distribution.
