Engineers Monitoring Bridges

January 17, 2020January 17, 202043By Patrick MulengaHousing and Infrastructure Development Permanent Secretary, CHARLES Mushota says the Ministry has deployed structural Engineers in different parts of the country to monitor crossing points that are constantly washed away during rain seasons.In an interview with ZNBC News, Mr. Mushota said Luapula and Eastern Provinces have topped the number of bridges that have been washed away by floods.He said so far engineers are repairing the affected bridges with the help of the defense service.Mr. Mushota disclosed that the Ministry working with Road Development Agency (RDA) has contracted local contractors to install ACROW bridges in selected parts of the country that have been hit by floods.He said this will help people have crossing points when other bridges are washed away.And concerning the heavy rains in Gwembe District that are reported to have washed away bridges, Mr. Mushota said the bridges in question have been assessed and no damage or weakness has been reported.He however called on the people of Gwembe not to panic since the Ministry working together with the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit is following the matter with keen interest.
