Lusaka, Zambia24 (22-04-2024) – Stakeholders and businesses gathered at Munali Girls Secondary School for a significant donation event, organized by Inclusive Education for Sustainable Development (IESD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The aim was to provide essential items to the special unit at the school.
Ruth Nawakwi, the Executive Director at IESD, emphasized the importance of quality education for every child, regardless of ability or background.
She articulated her organization’s vision of an inclusive society where every individual has the opportunity to succeed and thrive.
Nawakwi highlighted the pivotal role of every contribution in ensuring that all children have the opportunity to flourish.
She underscored the collective commitment to inclusive education and its profound impact on supporting learners with disabilities.
Nawakwi emphasized the significance of initiatives like the donation event in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).
“As the 2024 Global Campaign for Education’s Week of Action commenced, she urged both private and public sectors to extend their support to learners with disabilities, not only in secondary schools but also in colleges and universities,” she said.
Munali’s Member of Parliament, Mike Mposha, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their generosity and commitment to inclusive education.
He emphasized the collective effort required for fostering brighter futures for all learners. Mposha acknowledged the significance of supplementary aid from private entities in amplifying government endeavors and benefiting schools nationwide.
Furthermore, Mposha commended the resilience, courage, and perseverance of students with special needs, highlighting their capabilities and potential for success.
He praised the generosity of stakeholders as a manifestation of corporate social responsibility, enriching the lives of students and empowering them to overcome barriers.
Mposha also applauded the dedication of school management and staff, recognizing their pivotal role in nurturing students’ growth and development.
“The collaborative efforts showcased at the Munali Girls Special Unit epitomize the spirit of unity and compassion necessary for fostering inclusive education,” said.
Through continued support and dedication, stakeholders can pave the way for brighter futures, one donation, and one act of kindness at a time.
Mposha emphasized the need for all stakeholders to work together with the government for the betterment of learners, as they are the leaders of tomorrow.
Additionally, Mposha disclosed that the government, through the Ministry of Education, has provided funding for the 1 by 3 science laboratory, a project initiated in 2007.
Blessings Mwamba, a Grade 11 student representing pupils with special needs at Munali, highlighted the lack of transport at the school, making it difficult to take students to the clinic when they fall ill.
This underscores the ongoing challenges that need to be addressed to ensure inclusivity in education.
