Green Eagels last weekend become the first team to confirm their qualification for the CAF Champions league after a two nil win over Lumwana Radiants took them to 35 points.

The team now looks all but established, not only on the Zambian scene, but importantly in Africa. Green Eagles have accounted themselves so well this season. Some would criticize this notion by quickly pointing to the fact that Eagles benefited from the transitional short league and a “less competitive” Stream B, but regardless, Aggrey Chiyangi has evidently transformed a team of believers into achievers.

Back in June of 2017, Chiyangi was appointed as new Green Eagles coach, replacing Manfrad Chibangu who was in crisis mode with the club.

His appointment was not praised much and little did any one know that he was going to be the man who would historically bring the first ever continental football at independence stadium.

Chiyangi had the vision, Green Eagles was the perfect hub to kick start his master plan. A competitive and organized team was what he quickly installed, working with players who were already there as well as brought in some who would fit in his system. The rest is history.

Fast forward to now, it’s hard to pick out one single “star player” in this team as they highly work as a unit. Spencer Sauti is now an impressivelly converted right back, Tapson Kaseba gets the crucial goals ( as it was away to Buildcon) and Eagles keeps progressing in each game.

Now officially CAF Champions league envoys ( for the first time in the clubs history), winning the eventual Transitional League final would cement the ascesion.
