EL urges Church to scrutinise Bill 10

President Edgar Lungu has urged the clergy to scrutinise bill number 10 before it goes back to parliament in February next year.Addressing the clergy in Choma, President Lungu said many people including some clergy are talking about bill number 10 without fully understanding the content of the bill.President Lungu said those opposing the bill num are accusing government of many things that are not true, but that people just follow without interrogating the truth.The head of state urged the clergy to obtain copies from parliament and read for themselves contents of the bill without influence from any politician and come up with their independent judgment.And the president said his government will continue working with the church because its intentions for the country are clean and good.The President further urged the church to welcome politicians both from the ruling and opposition and advice both parties on the truth.Meanwhile,nine traditional leaders in Southern Province have praised President Lungu for his unwavering support to the church.ZANIS reports that the Chiefs said they appreciate what President Lungu is doing for the church in the country and his efforts must be commended and supported by well-meaning Zambians.Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders, chief Chikanta says chiefs appreciate the gesture of supporting the church as it also complements government efforts of uplifting people’s welfare.The Chiefs thanked the Head of State for pledging 2-hudnred and 50-thousand kwacha and donating 1-thousand pockets of cement towards the construction of a new 9-hundred-seater church building for St Stephens United Church of Zambia -UCZ- in Choma.And Chief Mweemba complained to President Lungu that criminals who attacked him for supporting the government have not been apprehended. Chief Mweemba said his palace was burnt down and two people died but police have not attended to the matter.And the traditional leader appealed to President Lungu to help facilitate for the construction of his palace as he has no home.And President Lungu assured the traditional leaders that government is committed to developing Southern Province.The Head of State said government will protect Chiefs and all citizens from attacks and victimisation for supporting government.The President said he will direct the Police Command to ensure that the criminals are followed and that there is peace and security.The heat of state said he will continue to visit all parts of the country in order to engage Zambians and appreciate their situation despite being condemned for traversing the country.He assured the traditional leaders that he will visit them again to confer and consolidate development projects in the region.
