ECZ Sides Will Illegitimate Nevers Mumba

ECZ-AkufunaIn similar fashion as to the behaviour of the manner the Electoral Commission of Zambia when the ruling Patriot Front was engulfed in a leadership crisis in 2014, the commission is at it again taking sides with Nevers Mumba in the opposition MMD.

During the 2014/15 PF leadership wrangles, ECZ sided with the then Acting President Guy Scott’s faction which was eventually proved illegal by the convention and courts of law.

In the meantime, ECZ is also siding with an illegitimate former MMD president Nevers Mumba. But newly elected Felix Mutati has says his party wishes to withdraw the part payment of the presidential election nomination fee made to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ). ECZ claims it’s non-refundable.

Mutati has said the party will not be fielding a presidential candidate in the August 11 election because it has resolved to back the Patriotic Front (PF) candidate, Edgar Lungu.

THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says the nomination application of Nevers Mumba as MMD presidential candidate in the August 11 elections remains valid.

ECZ public relations manager Crispin Akufuna said in an interview yesterday this is because the ECZ had received 50 percent payment for the nomination fee before the court processes and subsequent convention that elected Felix Mutati as MMD president.

“Dr Mumba had already paid at the time before all these court issues and the convention had taken place,” said Akufuna said. Akufuna said the nomination fee is not refundable
