ECZ Bites PF; Ruling Party Goes Into Polls Less Two Slots
The Electoral Commission of Zambia officers have shown some bite by standing their ground to deny two sitting ministers to file their nominations outside the stipulated time.
Justice Minister Ngosa Simbyakula and his General Education counterpart John Phiri were both turned away by presiding officers in Muchinga and Lundazi respectively.
Despite repeated pleas from the two high ranking officials their nominations were not validated ruling them out of the parliamentary race where they were both nominated.
The ruling PF has since announced that it will back Independent candidate Lieutenant Colonel Bizwayo Nkunika in Lundazi and MMD candidate Howard Kunda in Muchinga constituency with both candidates pledging to support President Edgar Lungu.
Nkunika had applied to contest the seat under the PF ticket but was by-passed for Dr Phiri.
The ruling PF has filed in all constituencies except the two taking their count to 154.
