ECZ Advised To Clearly Outline The Road Map On How It Will Conduct Voter Registration Exercise

By Enoch Lusoke

Governance, elections, advocacy, research services –gears- initiative Zambia executive director McDonald Chipenzi has advised the electoral commission of Zambia -ECZ- to clearly outline a road map on how it plans to conduct its voter registration exercise across the country, ahead of the 2021 general elections.

The ECZ will in the next six months start capturing voters after the delimitation report is concluded ahead of the 2021 general elections, with a target of capturing 9 million voters, up from the current 6 million registered voters.

But speaking to Phoenix News in an interview, Mr Chipenzi notes that in the recent past, the commission has had challenges in registering more voters, especially in remote areas, hence the need to put in place a clear road map if the commission is to meet its intended objective.

He has further urged the commission and other stakeholders to ensure that sufficient resources are made available for the voter registration process to yield desired results and reach the target of capturing 9 million voters.
