ECOSOCC Pledges to help Zambia fight Covid

The African Union through the Economic, Social and Cultural Council ECOSOCC has pledged to continue engaging stakeholders in Zambia in the fight against the Covid-19 disease.

ECOSSOCC Head of Secretariat, WILLIAM CAREW, says despite the gains recorded so far, there is still a lot more that needs to be done for the country to win the fight against the coronavirus disease.

Mr. CAREW has expressed sadness at the levels of skepticism and false information surrounding the Covid-19 vaccines.

He said this at a Covid-19 Vaccines Town Hall Sensitization Meeting, in Livingstone.

Speaking at the same event, Zambia National Public Health Institute Director, VICTOR MUKONKA, said the appointment of a Special Adviser to the President for Covid -19, demonstrates President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’s commitment to the fight against the corona vi
us disease.

Professor MUKONKA has advised civil society organizations and non-governmental organizations to actively participate in Covid-19 prevention programmes at all levels, to avoid the fourth wave.

And Centres for Disease Control and Prevention – Southern Africa Regional Collaborating Centre (CDC SA – RCC) Regional Coordinator, LUL RIEK, said the fight against Covid-19 is far from being over.

Dr. RIEK bemoans that only about three percent of the eligible population in Zambia is fully vaccinated against the Covid-19.

He is therefore appealing to civil society organizations to help in disseminating accurate information on Covid-19 and vaccines.
