ECL CALLS FOR HOME GROWN SOLUTIONS

By Hector Simfukwe:

President Edgar Lungu has called for home-grown solutions that will help the country’s economy recover from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Head of state says he expects business owners to continuously engage government on how best they want to be helped.

President Lungu says government wants businesses to continue running so that citizens can be kept in employment.

He says it will be difficult for the Zambia Revenue Authority to collect tax if businesses are not doing well.

The head of state says economists and business owners should help government to come up with practical solutions to save the situation.

President Lungu is happy that the Economics Association of Zambia is more practical than ever before in terms of offering practical solutions.

He said this when he met the business community in Ndola this evening.

Speaking at the same event, Ndola Chamber of Commerce President John Samaras urged government to protect local businesses.

Mr. Samaras also called for the promotion of value addition and stability in the mining sector.

And speaking earlier Copperbelt Minister Japhen Mwakalombe thanked President Lungu for having agreed to meet the business community in Ndola.
