ECL CALLS FOR CALM IN DRC

President Edgar Lungu, who is Chairperson for the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation has called for calm and patience among stakeholders in the Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC after the release of the provisional election results.
President Lungu said all must refrain from acts of violence, whilst the process of releasing all the results of the elections is being conducted.
The President said that SADC has taken note of the disputes that have arisen and has encouraged all concerned stakeholders to remain calm and act in a way that consolidates democracy and preserves peace.
President Lungu further said that SADC reaffirms its commitment to continue to assist the DRC with respect to neutralizing the negative forces and other armed groups operating in Eastern DRC.
And SADC has congratulated the Congolese people, the Government of the DRC, all political stakeholders and the Independent National Electoral Commission -CENI- for conducting the elections.
This is according to a statement made available by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda.
