ECL ASSURES IMPROVED WATER ACCESS

President Edgar Lungu says government is implementing various projects aimed at improving people’s access to clean drinking water and good Sanitation services.

President Lungu says the provision of clean water and Sanitation services is top on governments agenda because it is key in the fight against poverty.

He says all the water projects that are above eighty percent across the country will be completed and commissioned this year.

President Lungu said this during the ground breaking ceremony of the Rehabilitation of the Water Supply and Sanitation improvement works for Mpika and Nakonde Districts in Mpika District.

The head of state also thanked the African Development Bank and other stakeholders for helping government to provide water to the people.

President Lungu said the project in Mpika will not only increase people’s access to water but will also create jobs for the local community.

The project will include the construction of a treatment plant, distribution lines and sewer ponds among others.

Once compete Chambeshi Water Supply Company will increase its water supply coverage from the current forty percent to over nighty percent.

And speaking at the same event China State Engineering Corporation Chairperson Chen Xiaobo said his company will complete the project on time.

Mr. Chen said the project will be implemented over a period of 18 months.

And Water Development Minister Raphael Nakachinda said the integrated Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Services will go a long way in improving people’s access to clean water supply.

Mr. Nakachinda said out of the 17 million United States Dollars allocate to the project 11 million United States dollars will be used for the water project in Mpika.
