DYSENTERY, TYPHOID CONFIRMED
By Wilson Mulinda:
Laboratory tests have confirmed 2 cases of dysentery and 10 cases of typhoid in the country.
Health Minister Sylvia Masebo says Lusaka has recorded 6 cases of typhoid while 4 were reported in Kafue.
Ms. Masebo has also disclosed that the country has also recorded over 1 thousand cases of diarrhea diseases since July 2021.
Giving a ministerial statement in the National Assembly, Ms. Masebo said the cases reported are as a result of poor solid waste management.
Ms. Masebo said sub districts that are densely populated have got water supply and sanitation challenges.
She said interventions are however being put in place to mitigate the further spread of the diseases.
Ms. Masebo said the ministry has heightened surveillance and making follow ups on possible cases reported in the sub districts.
She said the ministry has also embarked on distribution of liquid chlorine, while environmental health personnel are unblocking sewers and drainages.
