Drop In Copper Production To Affect Zambia’s Earnings

By Tinkerbel Mwila

The Small-Scale Miners Association of Zambia is concerned that the drop in Zambia’s copper production in the first half of 2021 has the potential to affect the country`s projected earnings from the sale of copper on the international market.

According to the Chamber of Mines, Zambia’s copper production has reduced by about 4% in the first 6 months of 2021 translating into a drop of a total of 14,692.81 tons.

Commenting on the development, association president Kunda Chani tells Phoenix News that the drop in production will further have negative effects on the general outlook of the sector as it remains the major forex earner for Zambia.

Mr Chani has since stressed the need to sort out the possible threats to the smooth operation of the mining industry to pave way for Zambia to benefit significantly from the favorable prices of the metal on the international market.
