Drama on D-DAY, Nkana’s coronation put on hold…As Forest Rangers win an appeal, set to face Zanaco on Sunday

The Zambia Super League was scheduled to come to a premature end today owing to health concerns following the sharp rise in Coronavirus cases in the country with nine games set to take center stage.

Prior to kick off the Nakambala Leopards clash with Nkana was known that the Sugar Boys would not travel. KYSA and Mighty Mufulira Wanderers were also in doubt as KYSA has not been training after a number of their players tested positive for COVID-19 and they were ordered to self-isolate by the Central Province Health Department.

A new twist came hours before the 15:00hrs scheduled to kick off as the ZamFoot Crew learned that Kabwe Warriors had less than 15 players following Coronavirus tests with several players testing positive and only 14 players tested negative.

As of kick-off, only six games were ready to take place with Napsa Stars squaring off with Forest Rangers in what was expected to be the deciding match.

Lameck Silwaba scored the only go of the game in the 70th minute to secure qualification for Continental football and end Napsa Stars dream of a first League title.

In Lusaka, Sensational Zanaco were held a 1-1 draw by a very resilient Lumwana Radiants to ensure they finish outside the top four and miss out on continental football.

Dominic Chungwa put Lumwana in the lead just four minutes into the second half while Roger Kola leveled matters in the dying minutes aided by a blunder from Danny Sikanyika.

Elsewhere, Kansanshi Dynamos have joined Nakambala Leopards, KYSA, and Mighty Mufulira Wanderers as the relegated teams after they were held to a 1-1 draw by High Flying Nkwazi at Edwin Imboela Stadium.

In Choma, Goals from Amity Shamende and Michael Mwenya handed the Kawale Boys a 2-0 win over 10-man Lusaka Dynamos and secured continental football for them.

In Ndola, Defending Champions Zesco United were held to a 1-1 draw by spoilers Red Arrows. James Chamanga scored from the spot to put Arrows in the lead while Jesse Jackson Were leveled matters also from the penalty spot.

Elsewhere, Buildcon were on fire as they butchered Zambia Army-sponsored side, Green Buffaloes 3-1to survive relegation with Captain of the side Chanda Mushili netting a brace.

In the end, if the matches Nkana were supposed to be crowned Champions but they, unfortunately, have to wait for three days to know if they will be crowned Champions or not after the Appeals Committee overturned the Disciplinary Committee’s decision to award Zanaco three points in the unplayed match against Zanaco.

Fole Malembe will now host the Bankers on Sunday and should Tenant Chilumba win the match he will finally win the league after missing out on the final day with Kabwe Warriors last season.

Breaking News: Nkana will not be crowned Champions as the Forest Rangers appeal has gone through and Zanaco’s three points overturned/ cancelled.
