DMMU feeding Nearly 4 million People

The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- it is supporting 2.3 million people who were affected by drought during the 2018-2019 season and currently expected to provide relief support to approximately 1.4 million people mostly affected by floods.DMMU National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe says a good harvest entails that the country will have enough food and the Office of the Vice President through the DMMU will be able support affected families and also those in quarantine due to the Covid-19.Speaking when he received a donation from Musa Dudia Law firm, towards the fight against the Covid-19 and relief for flood victims, Mr Kabwe said despite the challenges faced, government has managed to deliver food and non food items to all the districts that were affected.The National Coordinator told donors that due to the continued prudent utilization of donated items, Government managed to sustain the livelihood of many Zambians.He said the good working relations President Edgar Lungu has created have continued to yield positive results as evidenced by the number of private sectors coming on board to supplement government efforts whenever there is a crisis.And Musa Dudhia law firm Marketing Manager, Chanda Musonda said the 50 thousand Kwacha worth of food items for front line workers at Levy Mwanawasa Quarantine facility is meant to ease the burden on government to provide for the front line staff who are worring tirelessly to help the affected.Mrs Musonda said front line workers from different fields have continued to work under high risk conditions saving people’s lives while risking theirs and those of their family members.Meanwhile, ZAOGA Church in Lusaka has donated assorted clothes for flood affected people and bags of rice for the front line workers.ZAOGA Representative Wisdom Maseka said the church felt obliged to donate in line with its core values of helping the less privileged in society.Mr Maseka said the church will continue working with government in providing humanitarian support to people in need.
