DMMU CONDUCTS FLOOD ASSESSMENT

March 25, 2020March 25, 202018By Etambuyu Katota:The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit – DMMU- says it will soon conduct a thorough assessment on the impact of the flooding in affected areas so that government can implement comprehensive remedial measures.Minister in the Office of the Vice President Olipa Phiri says government will prioritize critical infrastructure that has been affected by the disasters.She pointed out that the damage to infrastructure has remained enormous.Ms.  says approximately one million people have been affected by floods in 40 districts in all parts of the country.She says DMMU has far distribted over 10 thousand metric tones of maize meal to affected districts in the country.Ms. Phiri was speaking when she gave an update on the flood situation in the country.She said 2 hundred and 34 tents have been distributed to those, who had houses damaged by floods and DMMU in conjunction with the Ministry of Health has provided chlorine for disease control.Ms. Phiri says the office of the Vice President through DMMU has continued responding to all emergencies in affected areas.
