By Patricia Banda

The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- has supported 2.4 million people with relief food.

Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO says this is from October 2023 to March 2024.

Mrs. NALUMANGO says SIX-million people are estimated to be affected by drought as at February 15, 2024 because they are agriculture households.

She says the DMMU will continue to provide relief food to the affected people alongside those that have been identified to be in need of support following the drought.

Mrs. NALUMANGO said this in a Ministerial statement in the National Assembly while responding to Kasenengwa Member of Parliament PHILIMON TWASA, who raised a matter of urgent public importance last week on the hunger situation in his constituency

This prompted the Speaker to ask the Vice President to issue a ministerial statement on the Hunger situation in the country.

The Vice President added that social protection measures under the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services will be sustained to benefit the vulnerable.
