DIRTY CHURCH SURROUNDINGS IRK HAMUKALE

By NATION REPORTER
THE Church in Southern Province should be actively involved in the “Keep Zambia, Clean and Green” campaign, says provincial minister Edify Hamukale.
Dr. Hamukale observed that it was saddening that while residents were trying hard to clean their homes and surroundings, the issue was different at places of worship.
Speaking in an interview with journalists in Livingstone yesterday, Dr Hamukale said that it was indisputable that at places of worship, there was a lot of littering by children and parents; a situation which he said was unacceptable.
“The Church must join in the “Keeping Zambia Clean and Green” campaign.
I have discovered that people clean their homes and surroundings but when it comes to littering, there is a lot of dropping of litter at churches, “This campaign of keeping Zambia clean and green is for everyone not just government and the Church must be involved and it must start from there.
Parents should guide their children so that we can stop littering at churches like it is the case now in Livingstone,” said Dr. Hamukale. The minister appealed to traditional leaders in the region to take the lead in sensitizing their subjects on the need to keep their surroundings clean and green. Dr. Hamukale said that without the involvement of the traditional
leaders, it would be difficult to achieve the expected results.
